The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has inaugurated the newly appointed Governing Board of the Volta River Authority (VRA).
He charged them to reposition the Authority at the forefront of Ghana’s evolving energy landscape.
Speaking at the ceremony in Accra on Wednesday, Mr Jinapor emphasised the board’s pivotal role in advancing Ghana’s energy transition agenda.

“This board has been entrusted with the task of improving VRA’s operations, optimising hydro and thermal assets, and firmly anchoring renewable initiatives within the Authority’s core mandate,” he said.
“VRA must work to be the lead institution when it comes to power generation.”
Appointed by President John Mahama in consultation with the Council of State, the board is expected to deliver on several key priorities: operational revitalisation, accelerated green transition, human capital development, and strengthened public engagement.

Mr Jinapor reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the board in delivering its mandate.
“The Ministry will give you the needed support. The President has absolute confidence in the capabilities of the members of this board. As a board, you should lead VRA to champion the reforms in the power sector,” he stated.

On behalf of the board, Chairman Jabesh Amissah-Arthur thanked the President for the confidence reposed in them.
He acknowledged the challenges facing VRA and pledged to restore its leadership role in power generation.

“The fortunes of VRA have stagnated and dwindled over the years as a result of government policies,” he said.
“We will provide strategic guidance and direction to bring VRA back as the lead power generator in the sub-region and Africa.”
The members of the new VRA Board are Jabesh Amissah-Arthur (Chairman), Edward Ekow Obeng-Kenzo (Ag. Chief Executive), Dr. Lawrence Ofosu Adjare, and Collins Dauda.
The others are Fred Kwesi Agbenyo, Wonder Victor Kutor, Awulai Attibrukusu III and Peggy Addo.
