A member of the Communications team of the opposition, New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Kumah, says he will render an unqualified apology to President Mills for insinuating he is a homosexual only when insults against the flag bearer of the NPP, Nana Akufo-Addo stop. John Kumah was arrested last week for allegedly saying President Mills was gay because he had reportedly shared a room with Mr. Ato Ahwoi. The NPP activist’s statements were said to be in reaction to comments made against NPP Member of Parliament for Okaikoi South, Nana Akomea. He was later released on the orders of President Mills who said he was not interested in the case. Although there have been rumours that a delegation from the NPP will accompany John Kumah to apologise to the President, John Kumah, speaking on Dwaso Nsem on Adom FM Tuesday morning, said he would only apologise on condition that the unwarranted character assassination of Nana Addo by the NDC is stopped. According to him, he sees nothing wrong in apologizing to President Mills for his comments, but doing so may defeat the purpose of the Young Patriots, a group in the NPP of which he is a member. The Young Patriots had at a press conference stated that even though they did not want to trade insults with their political opponents, they would be forced to adopt personality attacks as a strategy if members of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) did not stop its verbal abuses and castigation of Nana Akufo-Addo. In spite of his stance, John Kumah called for a cease fire in the insults against political leaders saying they do not augur well for the country’s political development. He stressed that the Young Patriots will keep fighting for the course of deepening democracy in the country and will resist any attempt from any quarters to thwart that effort.
