Joseph Amoah-Mensa Victor, director of mass choirs for the Greater Works Conference, has underscored the vital role of music and the arts in shaping the religious gathering.
The Greater Works Conference is regarded as one of the country’s most influential gospel music platforms. It brings together singers, worship leaders, instrumentalists and music ministries, providing a stage that demands excellence, creativity and impactful ministry. Beyond the church, the event has influenced Ghana’s wider gospel industry, encouraging collaboration and originality.
Speaking to myjoyonline.com, Joseph expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead the choirs.
“It has been a great honour and privilege leading these massive teams and groups under the leadership of Reverend Edwin Dadson, who himself was one of the main headline acts for this year’s conference. Above all, we are thankful to God for the life of our visionary leader, Pastor Mensah Otabil, for creating an environment that scouts and hones talents under the Spirit of Excellence,” he said.

Musical events
Joseph outlined the major music activities that run alongside the conference.
Revival Saturdays: These are held each week ahead of the main event, featuring four district choirs at a time. They create a revival atmosphere and set the tone for the conference.
Night of Choirs: Sixteen district choirs present their own original compositions and arrangements in a showcase that promotes creativity, songwriting and excellence in performance.

Greater Works (Main Event): The four regional mass choirs, each with more than 400 members, join forces for the Grand Opening Concert. With about 3,000 choristers recruited in total, they deliver a sound that defines the spiritual and musical tone of the entire gathering.

Artistic contributions
The conference also features the Dramatic Arts Department, which stages choreographed and theatrical gospel performances, and the Hymns Choir, which highlights classical hymns. Bands and instrumental ensembles add contemporary, Afro, urban and cross-genre flavours to worship.
National impact
According to Joseph, these elements make Greater Works more than a church event, but a national gospel music movement that consistently inspires excellence and influences the wider industry.
He noted the impressive production standards achieved this year and urged for greater investment in Ghana’s creative sector.
“The Ghana creative industry has a lot of talents and quality. If given the right platforms, investments and avenues, we will find a lot of expressions, especially within the arts and music at very high excellent quality,” he said.
