She took a brave decision to quit her job as a news anchor two years ago to start the business of making local beverages. Today, Norte Fianu produces and markets thousands of well-packaged beverages.
Her production center is the backyard of her home. Norte graduated from the University of Ghana in 2012 with no business background.
“I had passion for drinks, healthy drinks so I decided to go into the production of sobolo (hibiscus tea)…”, Ms Fianu told Joy Business’ Daryl Kwawu.
Growing up, Ms Fianu had always wanted to do something on her own. She believes she picked it from her parents who are entrepreneurial as well.
“That was the drive, to own something, create jobs and help someone”, she said.
Despite challenges with start-up capital, Ms Fianu was driven by her passion. She now distributes to shopping malls and stores in Accra and Tema and takes orders for social occasions.
Although her business is common, she does not fear competition.
“Competition does not scare me. It’s good for business. It helps me keep the standard and maintain the quality of my products,” Ms Fianu said
Norte has got great plans for the futures. She aims to have “sobolo” dispensers at the reception of most, if not all corporate offices. She also plans to expand and move from her backyard in two years into a bigger production center.
For her, making “sobolo” is not just a business but also to encourage healthy lifestyles among Ghanaians
