Doreen Andoh, Ghana’s undisputed 'Queen of the Airwaves', was conferred with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award at the Guinness Ghana DJ Awards 2025 ceremony.
The award, presented at the 13th anniversary edition of the event on Saturday, November 29, celebrated the veteran radio personality for her unparalleled career in broadcasting, particularly her pioneering role in shaping Ghanaian radio culture over three decades.
Doreen Andoh is widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in Ghanaian radio history.
Her career, which began in the early 1990s, is virtually synonymous with her flagship show, The Cosmopolitan Mix, broadcast on Joy FM, Ghana's leading radio station within The Multimedia Group.
For 30 continuous years, Miss Andoh has captivated millions of listeners across Ghana and the diaspora, establishing herself and the mid-morning show as the definitive listening experience.
Miss Andoh's distinctive smooth voice, engaging interview style, and sophisticated music selection are credited with setting high professional standards for radio programming in the country.
- Pioneering Role: Miss Andoh was one of the very first female voices to host a prime-time music and lifestyle show in Ghana's emerging private radio sector after the liberalisation of the airwaves in the early 1990s.
- Audience Reach: Her programme consistently commands one of the highest listener retention rates in the capital, Accra, dominating the midmorning slot for decades.
- Genre Influence: She plays a significant role in promoting a wide range of sophisticated music genres, including Ghanaian Highlife, Afrobeats, Hiplife, R&B, Jazz, and Soul, thereby influencing the soundscape and musical taste of urban Ghanaian professionals.
The Significance of the Guinness Ghana DJ Awards
The Guinness Ghana DJ Awards, organised by Merqury Republic Events, has evolved over the past years into one of the most credible platforms for recognising talents within the highly competitive DJ and radio industries.
The Lifetime Achievement Award is reserved for individuals whose sustained contributions have had a profound and transformative impact on the nation’s entertainment, media, and creative arts landscape.
By honouring Doreen Andoh, the event recognises the vital symbiotic relationship between the DJ—who curates the music—and the Radio Presenter, who provides the platform and narrative context.
The presentation of the award, one of the final highlights of the #GuinnessGhanaDjAwards25 ceremony, was met with prolonged applause from the industry peers, DJs, music executives, and fans attending the silver jubilee celebration, confirming her status as true radio royalty.
