The Judicial Services Staff Association of Ghana (JUSSAG) has called off its planned strike scheduled to begin on Tuesday August 27, 2013, two days before the much touted election petition verdict.The strike was to protest delays in payment of allowances owed members of the Association.Even when government met the Association half-way by issuing cheques for the payment of outstanding allowances, the Association insisted it will begin the strike tomorrow if the clothing allowance was not settled.They vowed to boycott the much anticipated, verdict on the Presidential Election Petition scheduled for Thursday, a move which got the country alarmed.It appears however that the Association has softened its stance on government.President of the Association Francis Abrakwa told Joy News they have called off the intended strike because of the assurance by government that it will pay its members by close of week.According to him the clothing allowance is estimated at GH¢600 million.It is the only allowance that all the members of JUSSAG enjoy, he added.He said given the commitment and assurances of government they are sure the outstanding clothing allowance will be settled by close of week.Francis Abrakwa hoped government will not push them into that arena any more, adding, it appears threats of strike is the only language government understands.
