President John Dramani Mahama has directed the Minister of Justice and Attorney General to carry out reforms that would enhance the effective dispensation of justice in the country.
The reforms, the President said, should include the training of state lawyers, development of a scheme that would increase funding for the sector and the development of effective administrative and management systems.
The President has also directed the Minister to develop automated processes to enable the tracking of cases, attendance in court and attitude to work schedules, and digital record keeping to ensure the maintenance of accurate records of government cases and contracts.
This was announced Deputy Minister for Information and Media Relations, Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, at a media briefing at the Flagstaff House, Kanda.
He said the President has also directed the Minister to acquire automated legal resources such as electronic versions of law reports, statutes of Ghana, Lexis and Nexus among others to enhance research activities at the various courts.
The Deputy Minister said the reforms are expected to link up all government departments and provide them with the necessary services that would guarantee better public services and financial management.
The reforms, Mr Mohammed said, would also place the Ministry in a better position to make legal services accessible to all citizens.
He also revealed that government would soon make all the relevant payments to all contractors working for it, saying that contractors who had carried out various projects in the areas of education and roads sector would be paid in the coming months.
