The Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has announced that the Kasoa–Winneba section of the coastal highway is on track for completion by June 2026.
Speaking on Channel One TV on Monday, November 24, he stated, “The contractor says that by June next year it will all be done,” signalling renewed confidence in the pace of work on the busy corridor.
Mr Agbodza further revealed that the Winneba–Mankessim stretch, which is under a two-year contract, is also advancing steadily.
Although the contractual deadline extends to 2027, he expressed optimism that it would be finished earlier.
He noted that when all segments are completed, the entire route from Kasoa to Takoradi will be fully dualised, greatly improving travel between the Greater Accra and Central Regions.
He explained that three contractors are working on the Kasoa–Winneba–Mankessim components, while a separate firm is responsible for the Cape Coast–Takoradi section.
Describing the broader project, the Adaklu MP said, “When you travel from Winneba to Mankessim, we are building a brand new road alongside the existing one to dualise it. The Winneba interchange was not initially part of the project, but it has now been included.”
Addressing the heavy traffic experienced earlier this year, the Minister admitted that simultaneous work on the main carriageway and the expansion lanes had caused unnecessary congestion.
“We made a mistake when we started working on the main carriageway and the expansion at the same time. This led to many of the bottlenecks we saw,” he said.
He assured motorists that once completed, the dual carriageway will ease travel, reduce delays and boost economic activity along the coastal corridor.
