The Ministry of Health has handed over the case in which five babies declared missing at KATH, to the Attorney General's Department for further investigations.

The five babies who were allegedly born dead, have been declared missing for nearly three months.

Family of Suweiba Mumin, mother of one of the missing babies has threatened to go to court to seek justice, after a report by a committee which investigated the matter failed to establish the whereabouts of her baby.

But addressing journalists at the 'Meet the Press' Tuesday, at the Information and Media Relations Ministry, Minister of Health, Sherry Aryeetey said the criminal aspect of the matter has been handed over to the Attorney General's Department for further investigations and possible prosecution.

Ms. Aryeetey explained, the committee instituted by her Ministry only investigated two aspects of the case which were of professional and administrative nature - because, it did not have the mandate to investigate the criminal aspect.

"The Medical and Dental Council extensively investigated the conducts of the doctors involved ...then also we had the Ghana Registered Nurses Association (GRNC) also investigate and they came out with their disciplinary codes as enshrined in the law," the Minister stated.

According to her, "one nurse is still being investigated by the police...because the disappearance of the babies is a criminal act".

"We've taken action on the administrative part; we've taken action on the management part [but with] the criminal action, we've handed it over to the Attorney General," the outgoing Minister added.

She however, advised lawyers for Suweiba to work closely with the Attorney General's Department in their resolve to pursue justice in the matter.
