Ashanti Regional Deputy Minister, Anima Wilson, is calling for drastic measures to decongest the Kejetia Lorry Terminal in Kumasi. She believes the Regional Coordinating Council and the city authority must lead discussions to ease human and vehicular traffic at the facility. The World Bank financed the construction of the terminal which was originally designed to serve only motorists and the traveling public but has now been taken over by shop owners and other private interest seekers, squeezing out the space for the targeted group. Ms Anima Wilson joined officials of the Road Safety Commission, Police and the media to board tro-tro to mark Public Transport Day in Kumasi. She conceded the long hours motorists and commuters spend to enter and leave the terminal is unbearable, and defeats the objectives for building it. According to her, her visit to the terminal presents her with a clear picture of the situation at the terminal which can be the basis for further discussions. Ms Anima is however worried about the proliferation of transport unions at the terminal. Regional Coordinator of the Road Safety Commission, Kwaku Oware Boateng, believes conditions at the Kejetia terminal affect safety on the roads.
