WBA/IBF/WBO/IBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (62-3, 52 KOs) scored a fifth round destruction of mandatory challenger Alex Leapai (30-5-3, 24 KOs) on Saturday night at the Koenig Pilsener Arena in Oberhausen, Germany. Klitschko set the tone by dropping Leapai with a jab in round one.
The fight was all one-way traffic with Klitschko pummeling Leapai, who was a sitting duck on the outside and unable to effectively get inside. Wlad finally dropped Leapai twice in round five to end it. Time was 2:05. Klitschko outlanded Leapai 147-10 in the bout, with 10 being generous. It was Klitschko’s sixteenth consecutive successful defense.
2012 Olympic gold medalist Oleksandr Usyk (3-0, 3 KOs) scored an explosive third round KO over Ben Nsafoah (15-10-2, 8 KOs) in a cruiserweight clash. Usyk dropped Nsafoah in round three, then laid him out with his follow up barrage. Time was 1:43.
Unbeaten Kiwi heavyweight Joseph Parker moved to 8-0, 7 KOs with a seventh round TKO over late sub Marcelo Luiz Nascimento (17-6, 15 KOs) of Brazil. Parker dropped Nascimento in round one and was in control until round six when Nascimento staggered Parker.
The end came in the seventh when unleashed a barrage of punches that produced the stoppage. Nascimento stepped in on one week notice after the abrupt pull-out of Sherman “Tank” Williams.
