Flagbearer of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) Brigitte Dzogbenuku has named Kofi Asamoah-Siaw as her running mate for the 2020 elections.
At a ceremony held in Accra on Saturday, she described her running mate as a “brilliant, well-read, dynamic and well-qualified running mate.”
She said he is here to restore hope to Ghanaians in the upcoming general elections.
Dzogbenuku who said she has a lot in common with Mr Asamoah-Siaw described him as person who is “very humble, ready to listen and is in touch with the needs of the people of Ghana”.
In his speech, Mr Asamoah-Siaw said he understands “the important responsibilities that come with that role” and he believes the flagbearer of the party is a transformational leader with “great vision, boldness, decisiveness, selflessness, compassion for all, and above all, with an unparalleled sense of patriotism which seems to have been lost in our land”.
The manifesto of the PPP was also launched during the ceremony.
On the party’s manifesto, Mr Asamoah-Siaw said the PPP had the most credible set of policies for fundamental changes and reforms to strengthen the foundation of the country’s democracy and guarantee economic growth for the prosperity for all.
He touched on the importance of customer service and accountability and its relevance in the alleviation of poverty.
“We stand for making state institutions respect the citizens at all levels so that citizens do not have to beg and pay bribe to any public officer to access any public service.
"All public servants must and will treat citizens with respect, dignity to build the trust and confidence of the citizens as equal partners in our collective effort towards a dignified and disciplined society,” he said.
Regarding the health sector in the country, Mr Asamoah-Siaw said that one per cent of Ghana’s GDP would be used in the prevention of diseases such as malaria and cholera.
In his campaign promises, he assured zero duty on imported ambulances for private companies to operate with ease.
“We will also promote the construction of care houses and close down witch camps. We will promote investment in health and fitness facilities to reduce the incidence of diseases such as hypertension and diabetes,” he added.
He also promised the construction of underground railway lines for inter-city travels, the construction of adequate sewage and drainage systems, as well as the completion of affordable housing projects.
