The Campaign Director of President Mills has said that the Council of Elders of the NDC have tried in vain to persuade Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, to rescind her decision to vie for the NDC flag-bearership. Mr J. H. Owusu Acheampong said although the Council of Elders met with the former first lady to prevail on her to let the president go alone, Nana Konadu had stood her grounds. He said Mrs. Rawlings' refusal to withdraw her presidential ambition, was due to apparent misinformation her husband received about President Mills’ way of ruling the country. The Campaign Manager believes President Mills will win the presidential primaries in the July congress by a landslide. He assured that the party will reunite after the July congress. Speaking on Dwaso Nsem on on Adom FM on Friday, Mr. Acheampong downplayed fears that the campaign for the flagbearership slot will create division in the party. Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Enoch Teye Mensah has said that members of the party are free to support any individual in elections without fear or favour. Mr. Mensah who has declared his support for President Mills for another term in office, emphasized that Mrs. Rwalings is not a suitable candidate to present for the Presidential polls in December 2012. He described President Mills as the spiritual embodiment of the country. E. T. Mensah, who is also the Employment and Social Welfare Minister stated that the President needs to be given more time to accomplish what he had started. He explained that governance is a process and takes time. Story: Samuel Mantey/ Adom news
