Medeama have been attacked by irate supporters of Kotoko after a Premier League game just a day before Ghana marks the 12th anniversary of the May 9 stadium disaster, Ghanasoccernet.com can reveal. The Porcupine Warriors were held at home by the Mauves and Yellows in the biggest match on Wednesday. Incensed by their slip at home, irate supporters of the club went bananas and vented their anger on the match officials, whom they accused of bias officiating against their club. Missiles were thrown at centre referee Silas Okine and his two assistants Mumuni Issaka and Richard Kotey and had to take the intervention of the police detailed at the venue to whisk them away into the dressing room. Some of the furious supporters refused to leave the stadium as they waited to teach referee Okine and his men a ‘lesson’. An attempt by the police to whisk the match officials into the bus of the visitors was met by stiff resistance resulting in the throwing of stones and other missiles which smashed the windscreen of the Medeama bus and hit some of the players in a scary episode. Medeama duo Samuel Samson and Samson Cudjoe were also questioned by the police following an alleged bust-up with some security personnel in a flashpoint. The incident comes just a day before the country marks 12 years of the darkest day in Ghana football. One hundred and twenty-six fans perished with scores of supporters injured during a Premier League match between Hearts and Kotoko on May 9, 2001. The Ghana FA is expected to review the incident and come down heavy on Kotoko if found culpable of bringing the game into disrepute with recent spate of crowd troubles becoming a source of concern.
