President John Agyekum Kufuor has conferred with the United Nation’s Special Representative for Kosovo, Mr Marti Ahtissari, at the Castle, Osu.
Their discussions were held behind closed doors.
Mr Ahtissari, in brief remarks said the UN was presently engaged with the search for lasting solution to one of the remaining problems in Europe, Kosovo.
He said since Ghana, being both a member of the UN Security Council and Chairman of the African Union (AU), it was important to seek audience with President Kufuor.
He congratulated the President for Ghana’s 50 year’s of nationhood.
President Kufuor said he appreciated the good services Mr. Ahtissari was rendering to the UN.
In another development, a delegation of the Board of Directors of Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (ETI) led by its Chairman, Mr Mande Sidibe, was also at the Castle to pay a courtesy call on President Kufuor.
The bank is fast growing into a pan-African institution and certainly requires the support of the AU Chairman and the other Heads of State in the region.
President Kufuor acknowledged the Ecobank’s powerful presence in the country’s financial sector, saying, it had firmly registered itself among the leaders.
Additionally, the bank was proving to be a good corporate citizen.
President Kufuor said for these, the Government was looking forward to a fruitful co-operation with it to enhance and sustain the growth of the economy.
