The President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, says football development for both boys and girls remains a priority, hence the introduction of the U-15 Inter-District and Regional Challenge Cup.
The FA president announced the new initiative during the 31st GFA Ordinary Congress in Prampram on Tuesday, August 12.
He emphasised the importance of grassroots football to the development of Ghana’s game, highlighting the distribution of footballs and other essential materials to lower-tier clubs in the country.
“We will invest USD $100,000 in the procurement of footballs to support grassroots football across the country.
These footballs will go to Division Two, Division Three and the Regional Women Division One League,” Kurt Okraku said in his speech.
“We will, in addition, repeat our dedicated investment of another USD $100,000 specifically for the purchase of footballs for our colts clubs in this country,” he added.
He further highlighted the association’s commitment to developing football from the grassroots.
“Youth football development for both boys and girls remains a strategic priority, and the foundation of our future success,” he said.
“In partnership with our RFAs, the football association will not only continue but introduce the following: introduce the Inter-District U-15 Girls Festival, continue with the Inter-District U-15 Boys Festival, introduce the Inter-District U-15 Girls Festival, continue with the U-15 Girls Inter-Regional Challenge Cup, continue with the National U-15 Boys Cup, continue with the KGL U-17 National Championship, and of course pilot the Elite U-19 Boys Tournament.”
