In a bid to win the 2012 general election, members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) at the Kwabre West Constituency in the Ashanti region last Sunday night sought God's assistance in a prayer meeting at the Afrancho Methodist Church.
It follows a directive by the leadership of the party for all branches across the country to set up prayer groups, both Christian and Muslim, by August 20 to seek divine intervention for the party to return to power in 2012.
The General Secretary of NPP, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie aka Sir John, had said both the Bible and the Quran admonished the faithful to trust in the Lord, especially when they faced a battle, and it was therefore only natural that his party sought the face of the Lord in the crucial 2012 electoral battle.
Led by the constituency chairman, Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, the NPP faithful also prayed for good governance and direction for President John Atta Mills.
According to the NPP chairman, Ghana’s economy had slowed down due to the NDC’s incompetence.
Quoting Ecclesiastes 10:16-18 to buttress his point, Odeneho said the nation had been ruined because God said “Woe to you, O! Land, when your king is a child and your princes eats in the morning.”
He stated that President Mills’ administration was full of inexperienced youngsters whose competence on the job left much to be desired.
He therefore asked for God's favour for the nation and the NPP flagbearer to be able to ascend to the throne of the presidency in 2013 in order to reverse the anti-clockwise development growth of the country.
The well-attended prayer meeting was graced by the constituency executives as well as the party's parliamentary candidate for the area, William Aiddo aka Owirieku.
