Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah will be sacked if the Black Stars fail to win the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to be hosted by Egypt in June.
This was revealed by the chairman of the Normalisation Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Dr Kofi Amoah on Friday.
Dr Amoah confirmed that Appiah, whose contract was due to expire in April this year, has been handed a new six-month deal.
He, however, disclosed that they had inserted a clause in the new contract which allows Appiah to be fired if he doesn’t win the continent’s most prestigious competition.
"Per the contract, if Kwesi Appiah doesn't win the AFCON 2019 he is gone. This is stated in his contract," Kofi Amoah said on Adom TV.
Black Stars have not won the continent’s elite competition since 1982.
"The president of Ghana is ready to end the 37 years of trophy drought. I believe Coach Kwasi Appiah can win the AFCON with our prayers and support," Amoah added.
Ghana qualified from Group F, playing against teams Kenya, Ethiopia after the other group member, Sierra Leone, was disqualified following the interference of football administration by their government.
