CAF and FIFA referee’s instructor, Joseph Wellington has told JOY Sports, he expects Ghanaian referees who get the opportunity to officiate at the 2015 Nations Cup in Equatorial Guinea to demonstrate a high level of professionalism.
Joseph Wellington, who is now the Vice Chairman of the Referees Appointment Committee, is optimistic the Ghanaian duo of Malik Seidu Salifu from Tamale and Joseph Lamptey will pass the test and be worthy ambassadors at the 2015 Nations Cup
"At least there will be a representation at Equatorial Guinea. I believe Joseph Lamptey and Malik Seidu Salifu will be there. They have done a lot, the most recent one was the Algeria -Mali game in Mali, it was a very good game as well as Burkina Faso -Gabon qualifiers in Gabon. So based on the performances they have exhibited I believe that CAF will deem it wise to send them to the AFCON 2015"Ref Wellington confidently told JOY Sports.
The Confederations of African Football- organizers of the Cup of Nations have already sent out invitations letters to selected referees to report in Bata by January 7 2015 where they will be expected to take undergo a fitness test scheduled for January 9, followed by the refresher course for those who will scale the fitness hurdle. In line with this,
Nigeria’s foremost referee Peter Edibi has been invited to officiate during the 30th Orange Africa Cup of Nations taking place between January 17 to February 8 in Equatorial Guinea.
