Dr Mohammed Kabil, alias Alhaji Ballah, a Lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology was Sunday elected as the parliamentary candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for Asawasi in the Kumasi Metropolis.
He polled 56 votes as against the 42 votes attracted by his sole contestant, Alhaji Akwasi Yeboah, Kwabre District Chief Executive in the election, which was supervised by the Electoral Commission.
The primaries was delayed due to internal wrangling and court actions initiated by the aggrieved factions.
Addressing the delegates after the elections, Mr Peter Mac Manu, National Chairman of the Party, charged the delegates to bury their differences and support the elected candidate in order to ensure a resounding victory for the NPP in the December 7 General Election.
He reminded them that the Asawasi seat was currently in the hands of the main opposition National Democratic Congress, hence the need to recapture it through intensification of campaigns in all corners of the constituency and the propagation of the good works of the government to the electorate.
Dr Kabil thanked the delegates for the confidence reposed in him and said he would work in collaboration with the supporters to win the seat for the NPP.
Alhaji Yeboah, who conceded defeat, assured the delegates that as a true son of the party, he would work hand-in-hand with Dr Kabil to achieve the aims and objectives at the constituency.
