The Municipal Chief Executive for Ledzokuku Krowor Municipal Assembly, (LEKMA) of Accra, Daniel Amartey Mensah has been removed from office.
A release issued by Mr. Akwasi Oppong-Fosu, Minister for Local Government and Rural Development dated August 1, 2013, has directed the Regional Minister, Mr. Julius Debrah to take temporary responsibility of the Municipality until a new MCE is appointed.
Meanwhile, the dismissed MCE has been appointed as Regional Coordinator for the School Feeding Programme.
In a related development, the Krowor Constituency branch of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) has commended president John Mahama for his "good sense of judgment and political wisdom", by removing the MCE from office and subsequently reassigning him.
A joint statement issued by the Krowor NDC and the June 4th Movement of the Constituency maintained that, the president's decision would now afford the party the opportunity to regain its political dominance in the area.
The statement, which was signed by Deputy Constituency Organiser, Edward Borquaye cautioned persons lobbying for a reversal of the president's decision to desist from doing so, since it could have dire consequences on the party come 2016.
"This is because, the lobbyists are not aware that, LEKMA is made up Nungua and Teshie Towns with two different Constituencies and two different Traditional Areas, and that since its creation the two earlier MCEs had all come from Teshie. Moreover, all the current political positions have gone to the people of Teshie.
We urge H.E the President to stand firm in this matter and not allow the will and wishes of the lobbyist prevail," the statement said.
