License of operators of crashed helicopter suspended

The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority has suspended the license of International Aircraft Services, the firm that operates the helicopter that crashed into the sea at Takoradi killing four people.

This is to allow for thorough investigations into the circumstances that led to the accident.

The fatal crash happened during a routine flight to an oil rig on May 8.

Director of Air Traffic Services, Albert Taylor tells Joy News, the future of the operators in Ghana will be determined after the investigation.

He noted that the suspension is just a normal procedure an organization goes through after a serious accident to review what went wrong pending the outcome of a detailed investigation.

“It is not a life ban suspension or cancellation of the license. We suspended it temporary in order to conduct criminal investigation by the Civil Aviation,” he explained.

The Ivorian registered chopper, International Aircraft Services (IAS) was hired by Lukoil to convey staff of the company to the oil fields.
