Reports reaching JoyNews indicate that the long queues being recorded at some SIM card re-registration centres in the country is due to challenges with the registration systems deployed by the telecommunication companies.
Speaking to Emefa Apawu on Joy FM's Midday News, on Thursday, a correspondent, Manuel Koranteng disclosed that personnel of the telecommunication companies (Telcos) who interacted with the JoyNews team admitted that they are facing some technical hitches in the ongoing exercise.
"We are told that the system that is being used is down. This is particularly dominant at the MTN and AirtelTigo head offices. What we were told by the officer attending to the subscribers is that, this system is a National Communications Authority (NCA) sponsored platform that all of the Telcos are using. They will not go on record with us and give us details of this platform," he said.
According to him, individuals who had come to re-register their SIM cards on Thursday at MTN's office on the Ring Road, had to wait for several hours in long queues as witnessed in some parts of Accra for the past two days.
Subscribers who interacted with the JoyNews team stated that they have been visiting the office since Tuesday, but have been unable to complete the process.

Others indicated that although they left their homes at dawn to the centre, they had still not been attended to as of Thursday afternoon.
"I have been here since Tuesday. It is too much," one of them said.
Another client complained that, "The process is too stressful. Why can't they sort it out with a merchant so when you buy your sim then you register? Coming here and the queue is not moving. People have been here since 4am. I don't know what is happening. I'm told the network is down. It is like we are going to spend the whole day here and we might probably not get the opportunity to register."
