As part of activities to save the lives of Ghanaian children, Ma Love Foundation, a non-governmental organization (NGO) has organized a day’s seminar on new born care/neonatal care at the Kwahu District Hospital, Atibie in the Eastern Region of Ghana. The seminar was organized for doctors, midwives, nurses and other para-medical staff, on Tuesday, to equip them and also to help reduce infant mortality in the country. The seminar was addressed by Dr. S.K Buabeng-Frempong, Medical Superintendent of Kwahu District Hospital, Dr. Gabriel Ayikutu and Dr. Bright Asiamah both resident Pediatricians at the Child Health Department of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital. The over 38 Participants were given lessons in several key areas including: resuscitation, care of common and uncommon neonatal problems, normal pre-term baby care and normal term baby care. Dr. S.K Buabeng-Frempong, Medical Superintendent of Kwahu District Hospital described the seminar as very timely, and was hopeful it will bring immense benefits to the hospital. “Considering the fact that our facility is currently without a resident pediatrician and we had to send doctors, nurses and midwives to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for refresher courses in order to manage the challenging neonatal situation in which we find ourselves, this programme couldn’t have come at a better time,” he said. He commended the organiser, Ma Love Foundation, and asked that Kwahu District Hospital be adopted for such exercises regularly.
