President John Mahama has called on Sudan to intervene in the crisis in South Sudan.
South Sudan gained independence from the Republic of Sudan in 2011 but has been hit with political conflict following a rift between the country’s first president Salva Kiir and his former deputy Reik Marchar.
Addressing the outgoing Sudanese Ambassador to Ghana Mohammed Eisa Ismail Dehab at the flagstaff house, president Mahama said the Sudanese president Omar Al-Bashir has shown maturity with issues concerning South Sudan’s independence, but called for increased effort to bring peace in South Sudan.
The outgoing Ambassador Mohammed Eisa Ismail Dehab also called for reinstatement of a Ghanaian mission in Sudan, a request to which President Mahama acceded to and said work was still in progress.
Also outgoing is the Ambassador to Niger, Madam Abdoulmoumine Hadjio Yaye.
