The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Majority caucus in Parliament has elected a new leadership team to lead the party and drive the government’s legislative priorities in the House.
This change comes in the wake of several key appointments by President John Mahama in his administration by assigning some Majority MPs to critical ministerial roles.
The former Majority Leader and economist, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has been elevated to the role of Minister for Finance, a move widely regarded as pivotal for steering Ghana’s economic recovery.
To fill his shoes, the caucus has turned to Mahama Ayariga, the MP for Bawku Central. Mr Ayariga previously served in roles such as Minister of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, as well as Minister of Information.
The reshuffle also sees Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, MP for Ellembelle, transitioning from Deputy Majority Leader to Minister for Lands and Natural Resources.
His successor, Kweku Ricketts-Hagan, MP for Cape Coast South, previously served as a Deputy Finance Minister.
Meanwhile, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, MP for South Dayi, has been appointed as the new Majority Chief Whip, succeeding Governs Kwame Agbodza, who has taken on the role of Minister for Roads and Highways.
Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe, MP for Ada, has been named First Deputy Majority Chief Whip, and Richard Acheampong, MP for Bia East, will serve as the Second Deputy Majority Chief Whip.
