President John Mahama has directed the Attorney General to immediately carry out reforms of the legal system to help improve justice delivery and accessibility. According to the President, the reforms should also aim at making the legal system more efficient and effective. Deputy Information Minister Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed says the reforms will also help deal with the numerous judgment debts government has been and is being compelled to pay. Mr. Murtala was speaking at the Daily Media Briefing at the Presidency, Tuesday. "The President said the reform should focus on a number of issues. One, improve the training of government lawyers; develop a scheme for enabling increasing funding of the sector; to develop automatic processes to enable tracking of cases, attendance in court and attitude to work schedule, in addition to digital record keeping to ensure the maintenance of accurate records of government cases." Mr. Murtala Mohammed says the Finance Minister has also assured the President, monies owed contractors in the country will soon be paid. The Deputy Minister says contractors who stand to benefit are those who have worked particularly on education projects and roads. He says the payment of these contractors will soon inject more money into the economy and solve the problem of people not having more money in the system.
