Dr. Sekou Nkrumah, one of the sons of Ghana's founding president says current president John Mahama is not capable of leading "a radical, revolutionary party" like the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to Sekou, the NDC must begin the search for the president's replacement to batter its chances of retaining power in the 2016 general elections.
President John Mahama has come under heavy criticism from both members of his party including Alban Bagin, a senior member in his government as well as the opposition, over the lack of political will to decisively deal with perceived corruption in his government. Mr. Bagbin publicly questioned president's governance style and commitment to fight corruption.
Mr. Mahama in an apparent response to the former Majority Leader, Tuesday said, those who wanted to see his back ought to bide their time because 2016 was not too far away.
However, Dr. Sekou Nkrumah in a comment posted on facebook Wednesday described president Mahama as "slow and conservative leader" who has "no clue on how to better the lot of Ghanaians".
"What 'more time' does president Mahama need? He has been in power for 5 years now ( he was the second in command under the late Prof and he was a big part of that government)," Sekou stated.
"The NDC failed under Mills and is failing under Mahama. They have no political will to fight corruption and no clue on how to better the lot of Ghanaians! The 'better Ghana' slogan has turned into a 'bitter Ghana' under his leadership. He does not seem capable of leading a radical, revolutionary party like the NDC.
"The earlier the party change this slow, conservative leader the better. Simply put, Mahama should go! NDC should look for a new face, a new leader for 2016!"
