There are concerns among some teachers and Assembly members that, some laptops presented to the Agona East District Assembly of the Central Region, to be given to the schools have been diverted.
According to the assembly members and the affected school authorities, the laptops that were supposed to be presented to the schools last year for effective teaching and learning, have not been received by those schools.
Government under the "One laptop per child" policy, distributed hundreds of thousands of the "Better Ghana" branded laptops which also had a portrait of president John Dramani Mahama.
JOYNEWS' Rchard Kwadwo Nyarko reports that some of the schools in the Agona East District were last year named to have received not less than 24 laptops.
Although some schools received theirs, the Assembly cannot account for the laptops meant for distribution to other schools, raising fears that they may have been diverted.
Assembly member for Duakwa Electoral Area, Ibrahim Bassalou, who claimed to be part of the team that handed the laptops over to the Assembly on behalf of the Duakwa school, expressed surprise that the school has still not received its share of the equipment.
Kwadwo Nyarko said District Chief Executive for the area, Martin-Luther Obeng however denied claims the laptops had been diverted. According to the DCE, there was an unexplained problem with the supply which his outfit was resolving
