Employment and Labour Relations Minister Haruna Iddrisu has said President John Mahama is poised to retire New Patriotic Party flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo from high level politics in 2016.

The Tamale South MP said on the basis of the president's interventions and development projects springing up across the country the NDC will retain power in the next elections.

Commenting on the current energy crisis plaguing the country, Iddrisu said the challenge is only momentary and government will overcome it.

The Employment and Labour Relations Minister made the comments during a radio discussion programme on Diamond FM.

He was explaining the interventions and policies that government have initiated towards the transformation of the country and the state of the Nation address delivered by the president last week in fulfillment of Article 67 of the Constitution.

“We are optimistic President Mahama will win and win decisively come 2016 elections. He will humbly and probably retire Nana Akufo-Addo from high level politics on the bases of the interventions that he has done over the years. The energy challenge is momentary and we will overcome it. 

"Take the Damongo-fulfulsuo road for years it never got done. So if people are saying that there is an increase in public debt you need to understand that now you can drive to Damongo within 45minutes, that means that our student in UDS now have a better access in terms of getting to Wa. That is an expanded infrastructure. We have a national infrastructure deficit of about two billion dollars, president Mahama is not only a fine gentleman but a result oriented president.”

He said President Mahama was not only excellent in the presentation of the state of nation address but “incredibly eloquent”.

Haruna Iddrisu also responded to the New Patriotic Party's resolve to oust him from Parliament in 2016.

He said the electorates in the constituency are going to renew his mandate and that of President Mahama in 2016 on the bases of the numerous developmental projects that the constituency has witnessed over the years.

He mentioned the extension of electricity to various parts of his constituency and extension of microfinance loan schemes to many women to support them do business among others as his achieve that will make the electorates retain him in power.

 “I don’t expect the NPP to win more than one polling station out of 124 polling stations in Tamale South constituency; I am very optimistic and will deliver over 65,000 votes for his Excellency President Mahama in 2016. I will fully bury the NPP in 2016”.
