President John Mahama is addressing the media in what has been christened the Accounting to the People Forum in Accra.

Flanked by ministers of state and other key government functionaries, the president is outlining key development projects his government has achieved so far with barely a year to go for the 2016 elections.

The president has so far touched on health, education, sports, housing, water and road infrastructure and underlined some achievements chalked within those sectors.

The achievements when mentioned by the president is followed by thunderous applause from the crowd, some of whom are non journalists.

Education

President Mahama says his promise for 200 Community SHS is still in course with the some 123 of the schools awarded on contract and will be completed soon. He says some 10,400 scholarships have been awarded to some community students in order to make education available to all. 

The president also mentions the refitting of 200 science resource centres across the country to improve scientific education in the Ghana.

He says the policy to have Polytechnics transformed into technical universities is underway. After an assessment, he says five of the Polytechnics are qualified to be converted into technical universities.

Health

The president says there is visible improvement in health delivery because of the intervention government has put in place.

He mentions the 'Onuado' project to wit loving your neighbour which will bring health facilities closer to people who cannot get access to them.

He says the Pediatric theatre at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has been completed. He also mentions the Ridge Hospital, the Legon Hospital, all of which he says are at different stages of completion.

Energy

The president says the country is in the current power crisis because it has failed to meet the generation capacity. He says his government is adding more units of megawatts to shore up the generation in order to meet the power demands of the people. He cites the Asogli plant which he says is in its phase two. He also cites the Karpower ship which is ready to start working and to add more megawatts. According to him the first part of Kpone Thermal plant has been commissioned which will provide 100 plus megawatts to the generation. He says the country has signed a number of MOUs with IPP to provide about 3600 megawatts by end of 2020. 

Corruption

On corruption the president challenges the global assessment of corruption. He believes perception alone is not enough measure of how corrupt a country is. With perception as the standard, he says even when a country is putting in measures to fight the canker, merely by the constant mention of corruption in the media would rather increase the perception of corruption. He says unlike the previous government which says it won't expose corruption in order to be described as corrupt, his government will investigate every scintilla of corruption mentioned in the media. He says the government is retrieving illegal monies paid to individuals and companies; others are facing prosecution and has removed 3000 ghost names from the payroll.

Other Projects

President Mahama says it has increased to 7000 per cent the coverage of the LEAP programme introduced by the erstwhile NPP. He says the Cape Coast stadium is near completion; there is also the 5000 apartment at Saynemi close to Ningo Prampram which is part of the affordable Housing project. He says1500 of the apartments are almost ready.

The president touts achievements in the water sector and mentions desalination water project which has been completed. According to him, some 20 million gallons of water have been provided now with 20 million spare capacity still available. On road infrastructure the president mentions Sofoline interchange, Kasoa interchange, Pokuase road, Suhum Apedwa road all of which he says are at different stages of completion. He also mentions the refurbishment of the arrival hall of the Kotoka International Airport.
