New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North, Kwadwo Baah-Agyemang is of the view that President Mahama is covering up ministers who loot money from the State.
The MP said the President has been doing this through subtle attempts all in the name of reshuffling.
Speaking on Adom FM’s morning show ‘Dwaso Nsem’, the legislator said the President is only giving his ministers the opportunity to make money and once that is done, they are moved so another person can do same.
The President, exercising his constitutional powers over the weekend, reshuffled some of his ministers with Sports Minister, Mahama Ayariga heading to the Science, Technology and Innovation ministry.
Others include headmaster of the Tepa Senior High School (SHS), Peter Anarfi-Mensah, who has been made Ashanti Regional Minister.
But these reshuffles, the lawmaker believes, are part of the means to shield the ministers from being held accountable.
He noted that President Mahama is deliberately crisscrossing the ministers ‘so that Parliament cannot have the opportunity to invite them for questioning’.
The moment Parliament decides to call one minister for questioning, you are told the Minister is no longer there and has been moved to another ministry. Once the minister no longer heads the ministry, it is impossible to question them and all malfeasances are covered up, he said.
He cited the case of Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah, whom he accused of financial embezzlement at the Sport Ministry during the 2014 World Cup tournament in Brazil, to back his claim.
The MP said he has documents to prove that the former minister stole money from the State but because he has been moved from the ministry, Parliament is unable to probe further and question what exactly happened during the competition.
