The Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has indicated that the National Democratic Congress’ Presidential Candidate, John Mahama will deliver the 24-hour economy policy as promised.
He asserted that the policy is the panacea to Ghana’s economic crisis because it would focus on industrialization and job creation, hence Ghanaians must rally behind it.
“We have a transformational leader in former President Mahama, who is dynamic, who is visionary, who gets the job done. He is the one who gets results, so when he says he will deliver a 24-hour economy, you know you can trust him”, Mr. Ablakwa said while speaking to JoyNews at the NDC’s stand at the ongoing 6th Volta Trade and Investment Fair in Ho.
Mr. Ablakwa stressed that the 24-hour economy is practicable as being experienced in advanced countries, therefore, Ghana could emulate same.
He indicated that the NDC’s 24-hour economy policy would ensure that both public and private companies run a 3-shift system to keep the country's economy running all day.
He explained that private companies that sign up for the policy would get incentives, including tax rebates, and special discounted rates on utilities among others to enable them to operate the proposed 3-shift system.
He, however, shot down a claim by the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) that the 24-hour economy is already in practice, adding that the government’s attempt to introduce a half-cooked policy which focused on the night economy in its 2024 budget, was an afterthought.
“There is no 24-hour economy in practice, there is no such policy. I am a Member of Parliament, where is the blueprint, where is the policy, where is the legislation that is backing their so-called 24-hour economy? It doesn't exist.
"They continue with the dishonesty and the last time their candidate sought to confirm that this [24-hour economy] exists he was talking about chop bars, that there are a few chop bars operating at night. We [NDC] are not talking about Bawumia’s chop bars, we are talking about a whole economic transformation”, he stressed.
The NDC took a stand at the ongoing Volta Trade and Investment Fair hosted at the Jubilee Park in Ho to sell its 24-hour Economy Policy proposal to exhibitors and patrons.
