The Volta River Authority (VRA) says the ongoing erratic power supply across the country is due to ongoing maintenance works on some of the generation plants.
According to the Head of Communications at VRA, Sam Fletcher the country has lost 300 megawatts of power as a result of the maintenance works.
He does not know exactly when the maintenance works will be over except to say, that depending on the type of maintenance it may take about two weeks to three months for the maintenance work to be over.
But the country has over the last three years endured power outages with the situation worsening over the last few months.
Over the period, several reasons, including limited gas supply from Nigeria, high cost of light crude oil, have been adduced for the erratic supply of power.
On Monday, the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) directed the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Volta River Authority (VRA) and Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) to explain the exact cause of the current erratic power supply across the country.
Sam Fletcher told Joy News maintenance work is the cause of current 'dumsor' debacle.
He said demand has outstripped supply as a result of the generation challenges the VRA was facing.
Fletcher indicated it will be difficult to give timelines on when the erratic supply will end.
