On Wednesday, in Parliament, when the time arrived for the house to approve an outstanding set of four Deputy Ministers designate, Members of Parliament on the NDC side, led by Klutse Avedzi, the Deputy Minority Leader, staged a walkout.
The Majority side went ahead with the approval process all the same.
According to the NDC MPs, they could not partake in the approval of nominees they hadn't vetted because they had been in their constituencies planting trees on June the 11th.
Reacting to the development, the Majority Leader, Kyei Mensah Bonsu, said it was important for the Right Honourable Speaker to consult leaders before giving directives like ordering all MPs to go tree-planting and declare June 11 a no-sitting day.
But speaking on the AM Show Thursday, MP for South Dayi, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, stated that Speaker, Alban Bagbin, had given a directive to all MPs that meant that no vetting sessions should have taken place on the said day.
Indeed, the fact that MPs had even been given incentives to go to their constituencies for the exercise suggested no such vetting sessions would be held.
"He [the Majority Leader] has been teaching us that we are bound by the collective decisions of the House. The Majority Leader was bereaved and was absent on the day. In his stead it was the Deputy Majority Leader, Afenyo Markin, who handled business.
"Every decision the Speaker took was not in his singular capacity - but in consultation with leadership. He did not take it alone. The majority Leader got it wrong! In his absence, it didn't mean that the Speaker did not consult," he added.
The Minority side in Parliament continued to call for a re-vetting of the four Deputy Minister nominees who were recently approved by the Majority side of the House - without Minority representation.
