Seven of the 14 people arrested by police for their roles in clashes in the East Mamprusi District have been remanded into prison custody by a Tamale Magistrate’s court.
They are to re-appear on April 22, 2014 for a continuation of the case.
The renewed clashes reported on Friday escalated over the weekend claiming three lives.
Hundreds of homes have been completely burnt in the communal violence.
Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer ASP Ebenezer Tetteh told JoyNews the seven are facing charges including causing harm, conspiracy to commit crime, causing damage to property and murder.
He said some of the suspects were arrested with weapons and others were picked up while they were engaged in other criminal activities.
ASP Tetteh said calm had returned to the troubled area but said the people themselves must give peace a chance.
He said it is extremely important for the two sides to learn to trust each other.
“You can see there is a lot of mistrust between the feuding parties and that is the cause of what we are witnessing now,” he told JoyNews' Joseph Opoku Gakpo.
