The regional qualifiers for the National Science and Maths Quiz recorded a huge upset after one of Volta Region's most consistent representatives, Mawuli School was denied an opportunity on the big stage in October.
Mawuli Senior High School lost to Awudome Senior High School on Wednesday, May 26.
They contested alongside Three Town SHS and Hohoe E.P SHS.
From the start of round one to the end of round four, contestants of Awudome SHS showed they were in for the win constantly beating every school present at every round.
By the end of Round One, Awudome was leading with 21 points while Mawuli SHS their biggest competitor had only nine points. Three Town SHS and Hohoe E.P SHS had seven and three points respectively.
Although contestants from Mawuli SHS seem determine to beat those from Awudome, the latter had shown they were prepared to go home victorious.
They finished the final round with 38 points to secure a spot at the national contest.
Mawuli School's chance at the nationals however was snatched after they ended the contest with 22 points - 16 points behind that of the winners.
