The 2000 Year Group of the Old Mawuli Students Union (OMSU) is marking its 25th Anniversary with acts of restoration and compassion. The group has fully renovated Mawuli School’s iconic “White Block” — one of the school’s oldest and most symbolic classroom structures — and will officially hand it over to the school on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at 12:30 p.m.

In a statement signed by A. B. Kafui Kanyi, Chairman of the Media & Publicity Committee of OMSU 2000, the group said the project forms part of its contribution to the school’s 75th Anniversary celebrations, reflecting the enduring spirit of stewardship and excellence that defines Mawulians everywhere.

“The renovation of the ‘White Block’ is our way of preserving a piece of Mawuli’s proud history while ensuring that future generations learn in an environment worthy of the school’s legacy,” the statement noted.

A Heritage Rooted in Faith, Discipline & Excellence

Founded in 1950 by the Evangelical Presbyterian Church under the visionary leadership of Rev. Dr C. W. Armstrong, Mawuli School — meaning “God Lives” in Eʋe — remains one of Ghana’s foremost second-cycle institutions. Guided by its motto “Head, Heart, and Hand,” the school has, for decades, produced transformative leaders in governance, academia, medicine, business, and the arts, earning a reputation as a cradle of discipline and holistic education.

Reviving a Symbol of Heritage

At the heart of the celebration lies the rebirth of the “White Block,” an architectural and emotional landmark for generations of Mawulians. Once a vibrant hub of learning and camaraderie, the structure had deteriorated over time due to age and heavy use.

According to the release, the 2000 Year Group adopted the “White Block Legacy Project” to mark their 25 years since graduation and to safeguard one of the school’s most historic edifices.

“For many of us, the White Block was where our dreams began,” the statement emphasised. “It is only fitting that we restore it for those who come after us.”

A Project Anchored on Purpose and Impact

Valued at GHC 300,000, the renovation was executed in three phases, covering structural repairs, roofing, painting, new furniture, and modernisation of facilities to meet current educational standards.

The group outlined three key objectives:

Preserve Heritage – to protect a landmark that holds generations of memories.

Enhance Learning – to create a conducive and modern learning space.

Inspire Giving Back – to motivate younger Mawulians toward service and leadership.

The official handing-over ceremony will bring together school authorities, staff, students, alumni, community leaders, and dignitaries to celebrate a renewed symbol of unity and legacy.

Extending Compassion Beyond the Campus

As part of its anniversary activities, the group will visit and donate to the Ho Central Female Prisons on Friday, October 24, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. The outreach will include donations and interactive sessions with inmates to inspire hope, resilience, and reintegration.

“Our celebration would be incomplete without extending a hand of compassion to the broader community,” the release stated.

The humanitarian visit forms part of a weekend of events, including participation in the OMSU 75th Anniversary Float, a 90s-themed social night, and the grand handing-over of the White Block.

The 2000 Year Group described the project as both a thank-you to the institution that shaped their lives and a challenge to future alumni to keep the torch of service burning.

“This legacy is a statement of who we are, Mawulians who live by faith, work with discipline, and lead with excellence,” said Mr Kafui Kanyi.

As Mawuli School celebrates 75 years of nurturing minds and building character, the restored “White Block” stands tall once again — a proud reminder that while time may weather walls, the Mawuli spirit remains timeless.
