Ghanaian concrete chemical company, MC-Bauchemie Ghana has confirmed its commitment to transforming the concrete technology capacity in Ghana with the opening of the first phase of its training facility in Accra.
The company has also showcased an advanced concrete laboratory to assist players in the construction industry in their efforts to build sustainable.
According to Managing Director of MC-Bauchemie Ghana, Noble Bediako, the company will leverage on findings from local research and tertiary institutions to provide the best materials to grow the construction sector in Ghana.
“We are exploring opportunities to collaborate with more research institutions such as the University of Ghana Materials Science Department, in order to implement some of their research findings.”
According to Mr Bediako, institutions such as the Ghana Institution of Engineering, the Ghana Chamber of Construction Industry, NVTI, Koforidua Technical University will be crucial in their efforts.
“We hope, by these collaborations to strengthen the capacity of engineers, architects and artisans in the concrete technology, thus creating a synergy with all the other capacity building initiatives within the ministries of roads and highways, and works and housing.”
Construction activities contribute substantially to the Ghana’s GDP with recent statistics from the Ghana Statistical Service estimating the growth of the sector at 13.7% of the overall GDP.
Forecasts also show indications of a significant increase this year resulting from the increased capital spending on infrastructure projects such as roads, seaports, and housing.
Speaking at the launch of MC-Bauchemie Ghana Limited, Group MD of MC Bauchemie, Nicolaus Mueller said, “Investing in Ghana is important to us. The economic situation looks promising. Ghana is known to be one of the best democratic systems on the continent.”
The company is incorporated in Ghana as MC-Bauchemie Ghana Limited.
On his part, the chairman of the Ghana Chamber of Construction Industry, Emmanuel Martey said, “the focus now is sector skill development to support professionals. We are ready to collaborate with MC Bauchemie. ‘Be Sure. Build Sure’ encapsulates the aims of the Chamber,”
Mr Bediako further outlined the products and services the company will make available to the Ghanaian market.
“From this July, we are producing 16 different types of products here, locally, with the same supreme quality which MC is known for globally, but adjusted to suit our environment and application methods. We are producing different versions of admixtures; super plasticizers, retarders, and curing agents. In addition, we have just commissioned new plants to produce concrete repair products, grouts, floor hardeners and waterproofing slurries.”
“For the past three years, we have also organized our annual concrete technology training for players in the building industry in Bottrop, Germany, where our mother company is located,” he added.
