Residents of Bawku in the Upper East region are enraged over a hit-and-run incident involving a military armoured car.
The armoured vehicle which was on patrol allegedly sped off after fatally knocking down a resident who was riding a bicycle at the Bawku Central Market, Sunday.
The residents some of who spoke to Joy News were saddened by the death of the resident but were even more enraged by the failure of the military vehicle to stop.
Upper East Region Police commander ACP Kweku Boadu Peprah confirmed the death, adding the body of the deceased has been deposited at the Presby Hospital.
He said the police have begun investigating the matter.
He explained the military men probably were afraid they will be lynched by the residents, a reason why they sped off.
Bawku has been a harbinger of chaos after protracted ethnic violence between Mamprusis and Kusasi, a situation which has necessitated the presence of the military to restore peace, law and order.
