The National Service Authority (NSA) has commenced high-level consultations with the Ghana Armed Forces for the implementation of the National Service Emergency Response Readiness Programme (NSERRP), a new initiative designed to provide National Service Personnel (NSPs) with basic military training.
The engagement, which took place on Wednesday, 23 April 2025, reflects President John Dramani Mahama’s vision of nurturing discipline, patriotism, and physical fitness among Ghana’s graduates.
President Mahama first unveiled the NSERRP during his maiden State of the Nation Address to Parliament on Thursday, 27 February 2025.
Speaking during the meeting, Director-General of the NSA, Felix Gyamfi, underscored the transformative potential of the initiative, describing it as pivotal to youth development and national renewal.
“The introduction of this military training is a step in the right direction and must be embraced by all and sundry as one of the indicators for resetting the country, particularly the youth,” he stated.
Mr Gyamfi reaffirmed that all national service personnel will be required to participate in basic military drills and orientation exercises, as part of a broader effort to cultivate a sense of civic duty and national contribution.
Brigadier General Amoah-Boakye, who represented the Military High Command, expressed the Ghana Armed Forces’ full backing for the programme.
He gave his assurance that the military is prepared to deliver the required training when the initiative officially takes off.
The programme will involve up to two months of combined basic military instruction, with the first cohort of service personnel expected to commence training on 3 August 2025.
