Millennium Insurance Ghana Limited will insure Ghana’s first infectious disease isolation and treatment centre to the tune of eight million US dollars.
The insurance package was disclosed after Managing Director of Millennium Insurance, Oliver Akubia, led a delegation from the company to visit the project site at the Ga East Hospital in Accra.
Mr. Akubia and his staff also made a cash donation of GHC20,000 towards the completion of the facility, which is set to be handed over to the government soon.
“Insuring such projects for us is very important. We don’t know what’s going to happen. As of February this year, nobody knew that the country would be saddled with such a disaster like Covid-19. So we prepare for the future by buying insurance," he said.
Construction works on the project began on April 17, 2020, under the sponsorship of the Ghana Covid-19 Private Sector Fund, which has been sourcing for funding from both private and public sector operators.

The centre when completed, will be used to cater for persons who become critically ill from Covid-19 and other pandemics.
During the visit, Mr. Akubia highlighted the benefits of such centres in times of disaster.
“In critical moments like this, you need institutions like Millennium Insurance to lend a helping a hand. It’s in view of this that we decided to donate this token of 20,000 to the project.

Receiving the donation, managing trustee of the Ghana Covid-19 Private Sector Fund, Senyo Hosi, expressed gratitude to Millennium Insurance for their support.
“We’re grateful to you for your kind generosity. This will go a long way to deliver this critical service that this facility is supposed to deliver. We hope this will inspire other companies to follow suit and help us all build a better place in this fight against Covid-19.”

Mr. Akubia further used the opportunity to emphasize the need for citizens to protect themselves against the Covid-19 pandemic
"Covid-19 is real and we must prepare ourselves for the worst. And I think that government and all stakeholders should come together to help this project to bring it to successful completion,” he said.
