The Central Regional Minister, Nana Ato Arthur, has appealed to personnel of the Motor Traffic and Transport Union (MTTU) of the Ghana Police Service in the region to step up road patrols to check reckless driving to prevent accidents as Christmas draws near.
"We need each and every citizen to help in the nation's development efforts, let us therefore make the Christmas an accident free festival".
Nana Ato Arthur said this at the 23rd Central Region Farmers' Day at Upper Bobikuma in the Agona District where about 100 farmers and fishermen were awarded prizes.
He said roads in the region, especially from Accra to Cape Coast, have claimed many lives and mentioned an accident at Gomoa Okyereko on May 11 that claimed over 40 lives as an example of how accidents are claiming lives in the region.
In a related development the Winneba District Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police Jordan Quaye had appealed to traders operating at Winneba to desist from crossing the road recklessly to avoid accidents.
