The Western Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Nana Toku, has called on interested candidates for the MMDCE positions and their supporters to keep calm and uphold the party’s decision at the end of the day.
He said, “Everyone can win, you or your preferred aspirant are not the ultimate… let's respect the final decision of the President”.
Nana Toku, the Chairman told the Ghana News Agency in an interview at Sekondi during the vetting process for some 135 MMDCEs aspirants for the 14 districts of the Western Region.
He was worried that one district had as many as 16 individuals vying for just a slot…between 10 to 16 aspirants are contesting for each constituency.
There are six women in the race with no disabled contestant.
The districts that presented female candidates are; Ahanta West, Mpohor, Ellembelle, Shama and Evalue Gwira.
Some of the contestant who spoke with the Ghana News Agency expressed satisfaction at process but wished for a more balanced representation on the ground.
Mr. Musa Adamu, an Aspirant for the EKMA race prayed that his long-term loyalty to the party would win him the MCE seat.
Abdul-Majeed Iddrisu Nassam who lost the Member of Parliament race to Lawyer Boamah of NPP for the Effia Constituency said he hoped to replicate his sound policies as a Municipal Chief Executive.
Mr Daniel Agbesi, a contestant for Mpohor said he had the grassroot experience to add to the political fortunes of the party in subsequent elections.
Aspirant Francis Prah, also for Mpohor and a Chartered Accountant said he would use his tenure to fix the roads, fix the market in the area and improve on recreation facilities.
Madam Sophia Aubyn, the first female to undergo the vetting process says she would engage more with the communities to meet local aspirations and needs.
Mr Bob Kwofie said his tenure would be used to build an attractive institution of state and for that matter the NDC.
