Major Derek Oduro (rtd), MP for Nkoranza North has urged Assembly Members, unit committees and traditional authorities in the constituency to initiate and execute projects that will enhance the development of the new Nkoranza North district. Major Oduro was addressing the chiefs and a cross section of the people at Busunya when he paid a courtesy call on Nana Okofo Nyarko Gyabaa II. He advised the communities in the new district to promote unity, peace and understanding among themselves to ensure the pace of development. The MP called on the youth and leaders of Yefri community who initially expressed their displeasure about the citing of the district capital at Busunya to exercise restraint, saying all communities would enjoy development projects. Maj Oduro advised opinion leaders at Busunya to involve opinion leaders in the decision making process so they could collectively tackle problems in the area. Mr Kwabena Agyemang-Badu, Nkoranza district director of education, urged the community leaders to provide accommodation for officials posted to the area. He appealed to the youth to get actively involved in all communal activities for the accelerated development of the district. In a related development the MP urged settler farmers in the constituency to stop engaging their children in farming activities at the expense of their education. "It is wrong for any parent to deny his or her children formal education," he said and urged them to take advantage of the capitation grant and the feeding programmes to enrol their children in school. Major Oduro who was addressing the people of Betoda and Medina as part of his tour of the area during which he presented 20 dual desks, exercise books and Ghana@50 commemorative cups to students of Betoda primary school. At Medina the MP pledged to pay the salaries of two female teachers who had volunteered to teach in a basic school started by the people and promised to get the school absorbed into the public system.
