Ghana’s leading mobile telecom company, is warning its valued subscribers against a promotional scam that it says is currently going on in the country.
A statement by MTN says the scam involves the circulation of text messages indicating that a subscriber has won one of several prizes in a promotion.
“Subscribers are also requested to redeem their prizes by visiting a website with a given PIN to submit their bank account for payment within a specified time frame.
“MTN wishes to state that the text messages are fraudulent and do not originate from MTN. Subscribers who receive text messages of this nature are strongly advised to disregard them,” the statement said.
MTN said subscribers can access all genuine MTN promotions from the official MTN website www.mtn.com.gh, the MTN official facebook page - www.facebook.com/MTNGH. OR MTN’s 24-hour dedicated Customer Care hotline 111.
“In order to avoid becoming the victim of such scams, subscribers are encouraged to take note of the following:
• All promotions from MTN Ghana can be authenticated on the official MTN website www.mtn.com.gh or facebook page www.facebook.com/MTNGH.
• MTN does NOT charge ANY money to enable subscribers participate in a promotion or redeem a prize.
• MTN will always publish the names of winners of all MTN Promotions.
• MTN will directly call all winners of promotions organized by the company by using the official MTN line 0244300000.
• Redemption of prizes will NEVER be done through a 3rd party.
• Redemption centers will be set up whenever required at our Customer Service Centers or accredited dealer premises.
MTN said it remains committed to working in partnership with the security agencies and all stakeholders to eliminate the problem.
