MTN Ghana, in collaboration with Keynote Africa, has successfully held the 2024 Africa Business Innovation Forum, a landmark event aimed at bringing together small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to foster discussions on innovation, funding, resilience, and growth in today's dynamic economy.
The forum, themed "Guiding Through Uncertainties: Fostering SME Success in a Dynamic Economy," provided a vital platform for collaboration, learning, and networking among SMEs and key industry players.
Angela Mensah-Poku, Chief Enterprise Business Officer at MTN Ghana, described the forum as a crucial opportunity for participants to share experiences, gain fresh insights, and explore potential partnerships that could propel their businesses forward.

During a pivotal panel discussion, Abdul Razak Ali, Head of Commercial Operations at MobileMoney Ltd, highlighted the potential of emerging technologies in helping SMEs grow. He pointed out that cash management, particularly access to and management of payments, remains a significant concern for SMEs. Ali introduced the QR payment initiative from GHIPPS as a promising tool to address these issues.
Ali also acknowledged the challenges SMEs face with cross-border payments, noting ongoing efforts to remove payment barriers across African countries to facilitate smoother exporting and importing processes. He encouraged SMEs to look beyond their traditional markets and explore intra-African opportunities for enhanced value and efficiency.

In a notable announcement, Ali discussed the forthcoming Super App, which he described as a transformative tool for e-commerce. The Super App will serve as a comprehensive platform allowing businesses and merchants to source suppliers, manage returns on investment, compare prices, handle profit and loss statements, and manage inventory seamlessly. He emphasized that MTN is poised to lead the way in creating the technological environment necessary for this innovation.

Pearl Anakwah, Manager of Technology Operations at MTN Business, addressed the significant challenges SMEs face in adopting new technologies. She cited obstacles such as accessing funding, ensuring information security, identifying suitable solutions, effectively utilizing platforms due to limited expertise, and concerns about job security. Anakwah recommended conducting thorough needs assessments of business processes, seeking expert advice, and hiring qualified personnel to overcome these challenges.

Mrs. Jemima Kotei Walsh, Chief Customer Relations Officer for MTN, stressed the importance of embedding customer experience into the business culture of SMEs. She highlighted that prioritizing customer satisfaction is crucial for sustained growth and success.
The forum brought together key players from across the continent to deliberate on and develop solutions to pressing developmental challenges, including poverty, health, energy, water, and food security. By fostering collaboration and sharing innovative ideas, the 2024 Africa Business Innovation Forum aimed to pave the way for a more resilient and prosperous future for SMEs across Africa.
