MTN Group has supported the 2025 Economic Governance School training for public officials, held last week at the Fiesta Royal Hotel in Accra. The programme brought together participants from Ghana, South Africa, and Kenya.

The initiative is a collaborative effort between the National School of Government (NSG) in South Africa, the Kenya School of Government (KSG), and the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA). It aims to strengthen senior leadership in the public sector and promote inclusive economic governance across Africa.

Participants—including legislators, politicians, and senior public service officials—engaged in peer learning, policy dialogue, and institutional exchange. As part of the weeklong activities, the group visited the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat, which is responsible for coordinating the creation of a single continental market for goods and services.

During the training, which coincided with MTN’s annual “21 Days of Y’ello Care” campaign, participants also toured the MTN Ghana-supported Opportunities Industrialisation Centre (OICG), which offers vocational, digital, and entrepreneurial skills training for young people.

MTN Ghana CEO Stephen Blewett and CIO Bernard Acquah joined Morafo in engaging on panels that explored the intersection of technology and governance. Discussions focused on the digital transformation of public services and the role of AI and infrastructure investment in supporting state capacity and economic inclusion.

MTN executives took part in sessions covering topics such as telecommunications, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and infrastructure financing. MTN Ghana CEO Stephen Blewett, Chief Information Officer Bernard Acquah, and MTN Group’s Chief Sustainability and Corporate Affairs Officer Nompilo Morafo joined panel discussions on technology and governance.

South Africa’s Deputy Minister of Public Service and Administration, Pinky Kekana, described the training as a vital space for public officials to reflect on the complex challenges facing governance today. GIMPA Director, Professor Samuel Kwadwo Bonsu, acknowledged the importance of cross-sector partnerships in shaping effective leadership in Africa.

The programme concluded with a dinner at the Mövenpick Hotel in Accra, where participants received certificates of participation. Notable attendees included former Minister of Public Sector Reforms Nana Ato Arthur, Joyce Wireko-Ampim Opoku, Nontemberko Boyce, Nomalungelo Gina, Suzan Musau, Jane Afful, Isaac Kumi Dwamena, and Abena Ako Boadu.

A memorandum of understanding was also signed between MTN and GIMPA to formalise future collaboration.
