Residents of the Keta Municipality of the Volta region have commended MTN Ghana Foundation for its initiative to construct a modern maternity block for the Keta Municipal Hospital.
An International Peace Ambassador, Torgbui Gobbah Tenge Sedor, who joined others to inspect the progress of work with a team from MTN, said the project, which is the biggest Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) constructed by MTN Ghana Foundation, would not only address the infrastructure deficit of the hospital but also help greatly in improving maternal health delivery in the municipality and the region as a whole.
Torgbui Gobah Tenge Sedor encouraged other organizations to emulate the good works of MTN Ghana in providing such facilities to communities since the government alone cannot do everything.

The Project Manager in charge of Sustainability and Social Impact at MTN, Rhodezlyn Entsu-Mensah, noted that as part of their monthly inspection of progress of the facility, MTN has decided this time around to let the public know about the progress of work so far ahead of the scheduled completion date.
“So, this is just another project to reinforce our commitment to maternal and child care in Ghana. This project is the single largest project in MTN Ghana Foundation, and for that matter, the health and focus area, we've done similar projects but on a smaller scale. We did some in Tema General Hospital which we commissioned in 2018,”she said.

Ms. Entsu-Mensah added that at the time of sod cutting, MTN committed a bit over 15 million Ghana cedis, which excludes equipment towards the construction of the facility.
She noted that the Keta Project is the single largest project under the MTN Ghana Foundation with a focus on health, and that as a brand they have made a significant contribution to national development through the three focus areas that the foundation operates in, which are; health, education, and economic empowerment.

Rhodezlyn Entsu-Mensah stressed that MTN Ghana Foundation continues to stay committed to the socio-economic development of Ghana.
She stated that the new facility will bring relief to expectant mothers who would now deliver their babies in a much more conducive environment with all the modern facilities.
The Project Consultant, Mr. Nathan Ansah said he is impressed with the work and hopes it can be completed even before the schedule.

The sod cutting for the project was done in December last year.
The project comprises a 40-bed maternity ward, made up of emergency rooms, a first-stage ward, a delivery ward including recovery rooms, a lie-in ward, and a 20-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
The facility, when completed would also include: two operating theaters, a 20-bed hostel for mothers, two consulting rooms and offices for nurses, reception and out-patient department areas, a laboratory and dispensary, a scrub and sluice room, an anaesthetics room, an intensive care ward, restroom for doctors and nurses, and staff eatery.
