The Musicians Union of Ghana, MUSIGA has signed a contract with the Council for Technical and Vocational Educational Training (COTVET) for the commencement of the MUSIGA Academy.
The contract was signed by the MUSIGA President Bice Osei Kuffour in the presence of the Fund Manager, Ato Simpson of the Skills Development Fund (SDF) of COTVET and other officials.
Speaking at the contract signing event, the Fund Manager, Ato Simpson expressed the SDF’s remit of improving the skills available in the various sectors of the economy and charged MUSIGA to ensure that the concept of founding an Academy is fully realized to impact positively on the local music industry.
On his part, the MUSIGA President indicated his excitement at the signing of the contract noting that, it is the desire of his administration to establish structures that will contribute positively to the development of the industry in Ghana.
Under the contract, COTVET will finance the development of teaching material for the Academy as well as the training of the first 100 students of the Academy. The MUSIGA Academy will offer training in a wide range of areas in the Music industry from Music Theory and Musicianship to Studio Recording, Stagecraft, and ICT for Career Development, Other courses will involve playing indigenous and western musical instruments and Artiste Management among others.
The actual training will commence in three months’ time, and in the meantime; MUSIGA will among other things, be engaged in the development of curricula, teaching and learning materials as well as running Training for Trainers programme for a select crop of professionals who will be instrumental in the running of the MUSIGA Academy.
MUSIGA is collaborating with a number of institutions in this project. They are the School of Performing Arts, NAFTI, Globe Training Institute, New Morning and New BAPMAF.
